Appointments to see the Right
Reverend Seán Manchester, Bishop of Glastonbury, may be made in the first
instance via this board. These can take place either at Glastonbury
or his Retreat on the English south coast. Discussions
concerning projects and informal meetings usually occur at the Retreat. Most ecclesial matters are conducted at Glastonbury. Bishop
Manchester’s books remain in print, and may be obtained by mail
order from: Gothic Press.
Bishop Manchester, an outspoken opponent of liberalism and modernism in both secular and ecclesial life,
will make broadcast contributions where it is in the public interest or where an opportunity to address an injustice arises. The bishop, who once explained to James Whale that
within every mitre is contained a crown of thorns, will not allow his office
or denomination to be compromised. The broadcaster James Whale ignored this fact to his cost in February 2002. Furthermore, an edited interview of the bishop with Rachel Gibson, transmitted on 101.4 Angel FM Radio, 19
March 2002, contained a back announcement where aspersions appeared to be cast
on Bishop Manchester and the Old Catholic Church. A complaint, regarding this back
announcement’s implications, was upheld by the Broadcasting
Standards Commission, as published in their bulletin on 31
October 2002. In 2005 the head of programmes for a company that transmitted a slur on Bishop Manchester's episcopal standing in the year prior was obliged to apologise and remove the offending material from a television documentary film.
Finally, please do not send attachments with e-mails. These are not
opened as a matter of policy. All material sent must be enclosed within the
e-mail message itself. Messages are read by his secretary and selected for
suitability.
